IWSG monthly post |
Simply put: no. This is the time of the year when I don’t even try to catch up with my writing goals. If I manage to write something every day, great. But as it is Christmastime, I’m happy if I manage even half of my initial goals. I don’t want to be one of those people who are spiky stress-balls when Christmas comes. I want to have everything arranged in good time. And I sure don't try to make our home look like a Christmas carneval as much as I used to. |
When younger I did everything myself. Cleaned, cooked, decorated and one Christmas got stomach cramps from simple stress. A friend of mine was so tired when arranging Christmas for her family she literally passed out the day before Christmas. Her husband (who never saw any sense in that as he is not a Christmas-person) told her that there is no need to clean the house from floor to ceiling, or cook everything herself, and she should relax. Which she has done ever since.
We have actually started celebrating Un-Christmas with the above mentioned friend and her husband. We meet shortly before Christmas in a wine bar that is not decorated for Christmas and spend the evening tasting good wines and talking. (Ok, we exchange traditional Christmas presents with each other and everyone's happy as that means we both get a good bottle of wine).
I have also followed the principle of “if you don’t intend to live in your closet during Christmas, you don’t need to clean it”. When people wish Happy Holidays to each other, that's what I want to have too. a happy and relaxed Christmastime. I can start thinking about writing again after New Year. How about you?
