monthly blog post of the Insecure Writer's Support Group. |
I have such an active imagination it keeps on suggesting great story ideas all the time. And as there are only so many hours in a day (especially with a full time job), I know I can never write them all. If only there was a way to plug my brain to a system that would spew out the finished story LOL |
I am a fast writer when I have done the research and planning and start banging the keyboard. I have actually just ordered a dictating machine I can clip to my shirt or carry as a necklace (a kickstarter project), so I am waiting with interest will that make my writing faster. I have done dictating before with a portable machine but doing that outdoors when I was walking just didn’t work well. Indoors, yes, but as I love to walk and often get good story ideas when I walk, I’d love to get write them down immediately. Even the actual stories, dictated. I was surprised to notice how little difference there was to writing with a keyboard – I suspected dictated text would look clumsy, but later I didn’t always remember which parts I had dictated and which I had typed. (I used Dragon dictate indoors in the past but they stopped supporting Macs, which I never understand…)
It is the writing itself that delights me. To see how the story develops. And yes – I am probably odd in that I love the editing phase. I just sent the Magical Midlife Detectives book 1 to my editor and am eagerly waiting how we can polish the story. (I will publish the last chapters of the first draft here soon, and leave them for maybe two weeks and then they will be off. So if you wish to see what a first draft looks like – with all the typos and mistakes – you can still do so by clicking here.)
Also I have been making audio files of my first book in the style of a radio drama (with male and female voices and some audio effects too)– Nephilim Quest 1 / Shadowhunter. I just love to hear that story too come to life. I will publish the first audio soon (adding a video to it, which takes some tweaking from my non-nerdy brain) here on my website for all to listen to, but the rest will be posted to my newsletter subscribers and made public only later.
